Changes for this release include:

Setup Software and Playback Software:

* Several minor bug fixes
* A fix to a bug where the banks would sometimes not display correctly with the Sk-540C

For the SK-720 BE:

* The gyros should have lower drift, especially the tail.
* The servos are a bit more tightly synced to the control loop.
* Log files record the collective pitch position properly
* The USB lock-up problem should be fixed
* The unit should not stutter when the setup file is changed.
* The DMSS interpreter is upgraded, and should work for the xg11 and xg14

A reminder if you are updating from SK-720BE rev 3.40:

Changes include:

* The bug in the SK720′s self-level mode selection is fixed
* The governor is improved, and some bugs fixed
* The governor should now work without the blades on the heli
* The governor has a bail-out mode (details below)
* The SK-GPS recovery is more aggressive, and after recovery altitude-slew is disabled so the pilot doesn’t have to center the stick a few seconds after rescue.
* For helis with an elevator-nodding problem, it should be much reduced (goblins, trex 500′s, etc)
* The starting heli setups are edited, based on advice from our team pilots

Using the governor bail out mode:

* Set your throttle range as per normal, so with throttle hold off, you get 0 to 100% displayed in the Throttle channel under “inputs from receiver”.
* Now set throttle hold to display -10% or less.
* If you start with your radio putting out a throttle value of around 0% (collective stick down, idle up N, throttle hold off), then you should get a normal spool up.
* But if the governor has seen positive RPM in the last 30s, and you release throttle hold while in idle-up (radio’s throttle above zero), then you get a much faster spool up.
* Short version: Set throttle hold to -10% or less, and always spool up for take off from idle-up N, throttle hold off.

The 3.30 software will allow you to update your SK-720, SK-540, and SK-LCD to the latest firmware rev.

There are a good number of small changes and bug fixes, but the main changes are:

* Support for the SK-GPS
* Improvements to the governor

If you have an SK-540 and an SK-720, you will need to update both, because the setup format has changed. The software will auto-update your setup though.

There are also have a list of work-in-progress items we expect to get out in the near future, in terms of general bug fixes, 3D performance, and further improvements to the GPS.

Changes to the Setup Software for rev 3.03:* Added an easy “eject” button, letting you completely avoid the windows “scan and fix” popup.Changes to the Data Viewer Software for rev 1.02:* Minor bug fixes.* Note you must install this version to enable a Data Viewer Pro license.
Powered by Hackadelic Sliding Notes 1.6.5
Changes to the Firmware for rev 3.02:* Fixed a bug that would limit throttle servo/esc output while in setup mode* Governor will now spool up 2x as fast if set to RPM2 or RPM3 (IdleUp 2/3), for faster auto-rotation recoveries* All 8 channels will now work with a DX8* Changes to SD card access to reduce “scan and fix” popups in windows. You will still need to “eject” the SK720 from your windows toolbar to avoid the message completely. If it occurs again, use chkdsk, or format the SD card from the Utility menu.* Other small fixesChanges to the Setup Software for Rev 3.02:* Changes to SD card access to reduce “scan and fix” popups in windows* Fixed a bug in the tail setup wizard and servo settings display* Other small fixes

* The SK720 will automatically upgrade your setup file to the new format, but be sure to check it over yourself to be sure everything is ok.

* If you were using self-levelling mode, your updated setup will have self-levelling turned off. Just select which type of self-levelling mode you want to use, from the new options.

* If you have not updated to rev 2.0x yet, you must re-set up your tail so that the tail blades are at ZERO pitch in setup mode with the stick centred.

* With rev 3.00, if the SK720 is set to tail “rate mode” (hold gain is zero), it will add in a few degrees of counter-torque trim automatically. This allows users with rate-mode to still get the best performance possible, by setting their tail blade pitch to zero during setup.

* The “low voltage alarm” options have changed, so your updated setup will have it turned off. If it is triggered now, it will limit throttle to 70% to tell you to land right away.

* The unit now has custom fail-safe settings on the collective and aux channels – check the Utility menu to set them.

* There are now TWO TYPES of log files: vibration, and playback. Vibration logs will not play back, and playback logs will not have vibration analysis data in them. This is due to the high data bandwidth needed for vibration analysis.

* Spektrum DSM2 mode will now auto-detect the so-called “spektrum hi res bug” at startup if it occurs, show an error, and will refuse to swash bump. If this happens just power-cycle your heli and transmitter. Please note, the “spektrum hi res bug” is NOT a bug in the SK720, it is just able to detect it.

* In DSMX mode, the DX8 is currently limited to 7 channels.

* Remember to update your LCD unit through the Utility menu. Note that the LCD now has both a “Basic” and “Expert” modes, set through the System menu item.

* To use the S-BUS input option, you will need a small low cost adapter, available through Helidirect.

* At the time of this posting, we don’t have the payment system set up for the extended plotting software. We plan to have it up within a week.

* If you have any questions about new features, the plotting software, or the governor, please see our wiki

Changes to the Firmware for rev 3.00:

* Spektrum DSMX mode

* Better trimming in tail “rate mode”

* Many new self-level options: Self-level always on, Self-level upright + self level inverted, self level only on stick centered, SL stick centered + inverted.

* Option to level the heli if the radio link is lost. If you also set the fail-safe for collective (see Utility menu) to about 25% negative pitch, the heli will level out and auto-rotate down if the link is lost.

* Option to adjust cyclic acceleration (lets you soften or harden control feel: soft + high hiller decay = flybar feel)

* Governor, with both Electric and Nitro modes, with 3 RPM settings and anti-bogging collective management

* Fixed a bug in Graupner sat mode channel mapping

* Smoother collective pitch motion for 9 channel spektrum/JR radios

* Several small bug fixes

Changes to the Setup Software for rev 3.00:

* Support for all the above firmware changes.

* Wizard improvements, including a Governor wizard

* Displays throttle input value

* Flight-log replay options (see Preferences menu)

* Several other small bug fixes.

Changes to the LCD Software for rev 3.00:

* Supports more setup options

* Fixed a bug where if contrast was set too low, it could not be turned back up.

Changes to the Playback Software for rev 3.00:

* Syncronizes with the Data Viewer.

* More reliable and accurate playback

New Data Viewer Software, rev 1.00:

* Please see our wiki for details.

SK-720 Software Rev 1.11 – RELEASE NOTES* The ONLY change to the firmware for this release is to fix the futaba / external receiver glitch described here.

For SK720 pilots flying with Hitec ,Futaba, or any other external receiver, we consider this a mandatory safety-related update. For pilots using spektrum satellites, this update is optional.

* Changes to the setup software are minor. If you already have setup software rev 1.10, then you don’t need to update the PC software before updating your unit to firmware 1.11.

* This rev does not yet include S-Bus compatiblity. There will be another firmware update later this month that will include S-Bus input, PPM input, and several other upgrade items.

Changes to the Firmware for rev 1.11:

* A bug in the external-receiver decoding, as described here, is fixed.

Changes to the Setup Software for rev 1.11:

* Improved setup wizards, minor bug fixes.

Powered by Hackadelic Sliding Notes 1.6.5

For Existing SK-720 Owners:The new setup software includes a web-based firmware update tool for your unit, under the utility menu in the software. But before updating, please read the release notes!

SK-720 Software Rev 1.10 – RELEASE NOTES

* The setup software currently tells you to format your SK720 first (as of June 22, 2010). This is not needed unless there are more than about a dozen files on the unit’s flash drive. If you do decide to format it, be sure to use the method under the utility menu, do not use windows explorer.

* If you have a 4-servo swash, you must re-arrange the servo leads to match the SK720′s manual & label. The 1.00 rev of the firmware had them swapped.

* If you have a servo that uses 960us frames (Hitec or Logitech), the center point has been changed slightly. You will have to adjust the trim on the Tail Servo tab.

* DO NOT plug an RPM sensor into port IO-C without first turning the sensor option on in your setup and re-booting the unit. Otherwise, there is some risk of burning the sensor out if IO-C is still sending a servo signal. Note,the “Eagle Tree” sensors seem to have their red and black leads switched vs the industry standard.

* The SK-720′s self-leveling feature IS NOT AUTO HOVER. That would require an external position sensor, which we plan to release at a later date. Also, at the present time the system is optimized to get the heli close to upright under a wide range of conditions, not to keep it perfectly level with only conservative flying. The self-level feature will turn itself off if the vibration level is too high for more than about 5 seconds, which on an otherwise smooth heli can still happen during hard climb outs or max-roll-rate maneuvers (due to blade stall, such as when you hear the blades barking). Its weakest area is flying fast turns with near-max collective, as the combination of high G’s and periods of high vibration can cause errors in its sense of up.

Changes to the Setup Software for rev 1.10:

* Improved setup wizards
* Improved method of setting gyro orientation, which catches some user errors in setup
* Firmware updates for SK720 are easy, and happen over the web
* Several additional tail servos have been added
* Under the View menu, you can check the last flight’s vibration level (also available via the LCD terminal)
* RPM sensor option for flight logging
* Added “blur piros” option to the tail banks
* Some other minor bug fixes

Changes to the Playback Software for rev 1.10:

* More reliable and accurate playback
* Displays RPM, if an RPM sensor is used
* Displays which Cyclic and Tail bank is in use

Changes to the Firmware for rev 1.10:

* Self-leveling is activated
* More reliable, smoother startup for tail and throttle channels
* Smoother binding for Dx7se and 9 channel spektrum radios
* If there is an in-flight brownout or reset, it gets flying again faster
* Improvement to tail stability in hover
* More consistent piro rates
* Better hold ability for the tail
* Better bounding on tail servo motion
* “Blur Piros” option, so at 100% rudder the heli will piro at almost 3 revs/second.
* Slight change in center for 960us pulse tail servos (HITEC AND LOGITECH)
* Servo outputs for 4-servo swashes consistent with manual and label
* RPM capture to flight logs, via Port IO-C, that works with most sensors (see manual re Eagle Tree Sensors)
* Improvements to logging, so it’s more reliable
* Flight logs should be saved even after a crash where electrical power is lost
* Logging quality improved
* Ability to set up the unit via USB even with the SD card inoperable or removed
* Fixed a bug where the unit could fail to start up if there are a large number of files in the SD card’s root directory
* More reliable LCD firmware updating using the SK720
* Lowered risk of setup file being corrupted
* Improved the SD-card reformat method
* Error flags are more consistent
